Jacob Vincent

"The work that I create highlights form, color and absolute detail in blown and engraved glass. "

Jacob Vincent creates functional, decorative objects for the modern home. Each piece is hand blown using a working process that has remained unchanged for centuries. On the end of a blowing iron, molten glass is gathered out of a furnace at 2100 degrees and then shaped by hand and breath into a one of a kind work of art. No molds are used in the creation of the work and as a result no two pieces are exactly the same.

Much of the work involves cold finishing processes such as grinding, engraving, polishing and etching, carried out after the glassblowing process is complete. In the Cold Shop, Jacob uses diamond and stone wheels to carve into the works, perfecting the surface of what might otherwise be plain blown forms. Cutting through layers of color with these abrasive tools allows the artist to reveal what lies beneath, while at the same time adding visual and tactile texture.

Jacob Vincent serves as Glass Department Director at the Worcester Center for Crafts in Massachusetts, America's oldest non-profit center for craft education. His work can be found in prestigious galleries throughout the United States and has been featured in numerous craft publications including the recent Lark Books 500 Glass Objects. He has studied his craft at the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts as well as the Studio of Corning Museum of Glass, where he was a scholarship recipient.
