Jeremy Popelka
"I have been in a forty-year relationship with glass and like any successful marriage, there have been highs and lows, surprising discoveries, incredible milestones, and finally, the ability to always insist on pushing the status quo to reveal new visions."
Jeremy Popelka is an artist who has worked in primarily in glass for most of his career. He has studied traditional Italian glass techniques and the complex patterns that came from assembling mosaic and glass cane elements. More recently, his work feels like a culmination of focus, where the form, color, and presence of a vessel all work in harmony.
He received his Masters of Fine Arts degree with High Distinction from the California College of Arts in 1989. His education and ensuing pursuits have given him the opportunity to mentor and work with many luminaries in the glass community including Dale Chihuly, Marvin Lipofsky, Joel Phillip Myers, and Bertil Vallien. He has conducted workshops at the Pilchuck School and the Corning Museum School as well as many glass studios around the country. Popelka and his wife, artist Stephanie Trenchard, established Popelka Trenchard Glass in Wisconsin in 1997, and since then have established themselves as a resource for education and glass art with work in museums and galleries throughout the United States. They were also chosen to establish a glass academy at Bangkok Glass Company in Thailand in 2016 and continue a close relationship with BGC’s glass studio’s progress with several return visits as well as welcoming Thai artists to visit and work in their Sturgeon Bay studio.
