Ken Edwards

"As a former building contractor and firefighter, my work uses tools that I have always been around. I love this work and hope to be doing it for a long time to come."

As a self-taught artist, Ken Edwards feels free to take any direction possible in exploring new techniques and materials. The unique handle shapes for his sculptural tools are often apparent to him when he first picks up the original tool.

Edwards' sculptural tools are all created from found objects, hardwoods and acrylic paint. The handles are initially shaped on the bandsaw or lathe. Edwards then works on the shapes by hand, using everything from a small chainsaw to rasps and sanders, before finishing each piece in the paint studio.

Ken Edwards is largely self taught. In addition, he has taken classes and workshops in sculpting and furniture design at DeAnza College in Cupertino, CA, at California College of the Arts in San Francisco, CA, and at Anderson Ranch, Snowmass, CO.
