Lisa B. Evans

Lisa B. Evans Ceramics

"At my wheel I abandon perfection and lose myself in the throwing process creating a conversation between myself and the clay."

Lisa Evans' work is gestural in nature exploring forms that are both sculptural and functional and bring an elegance to everyday life. Evans' porcelain objects contain layers of visual and physical complexity that marry form and surface creating a gratifying soulfulness.

Lisa's 'call and response' throwing technique begins on the wheel and is then altered by hand into her unique sculptural forms. After adding layers of foraged elements such as iron, slips, underglazes, and traditional shino glazes they are all high-fired in her gas reduction kiln. Lisa's finished work is distinctive for its richly layered colors, textures, and graceful forms.

The seed was sown as a child mesmerized by the potter's demos at her artist mother's 'Starving Artist' shows in Fort Worth, Texas. Lisa has since built upon her design-based education and early career years as a Landscape Architect and pursued and intuitive, self-guided education, and career in clay.
