Olivia Avery
"I believe having art in our homes enriches our lives past what we can see. Handmade items ask us to slow down and participate in the moment and pay attention to time passing by. I believe our connection to nature has this same effect. As many of us spend our time inside, my goal is to bring the outdoors in."
The relationship between humans and nature, especially plants, has always astounded Olivia. Man's attempt to control that which grows and nature's way of taking everything back once man has walked away fuels her work In form and surface.
Olivia is embarking down a path to bring us back to connection, nature, and harmony. Her use of intricate plant motifs on her functional pottery puts the leaves or tree rings into our hands and up to our mouths. Olivia is turning functional pottery into fine art which in turn encourages us to hold our most mundane moments of coffee or tea in high regard. Olivia wheel throws each piece on the pottery wheel then hand paints and slip trails each one. Each piece is freehanded and holds very subtle differing qualities while maintaining uniqueness.
Olivia possesses a BFA in Ceramics and Drawing. She has worked in various art studios throughout Memphis, Tennessee.
