Raissa Bump
"I believe there’s wild variety in our human experience and there should be many ways to externally convey some small bit of the beauty of our inner lives. Jewelry does this magically."
As Raissa sits and makes jewelry, she thinks both of the past and the future while methodically using her hands in the present. Her hands translate the abstractions she sees as she walks down the street, the memories of a landscape of color and texture, or the feeling and patterns of fabric. With time, a wearable memento for intangible feelings is created.
Raissa hand fabricates both her one-of-a-kind pieces and edition collections using traditional metal techniques with the addition of textile inspired methods and materials.
In 2003 Raissa received a BFA in metals from Rhode Island School of Design and studied in Italy with Giampalo Babetto at Alchimia School for Contemporary Jewelry.
