Theresa Carson

"By juxtaposing the cool finish of polished sterling silver with textured and patterned oxidized areas, I strive to give my pieces warmth and a real awareness that they are of the hand, yet modern and clean at the same time."

Theresa Carson's inspiration comes from the manmade as well as the natural. For fourteen years, her aim has been to present a different take on objects that have been made many times before by many people. She endeavors in her work to strike her own unique balance between the contemporary and the antique, the sleek and the irregular.

All of Carson's jewelry begins life as a sheet of sterling silver. She cuts pieces from the sheet, doming them or forming them and soldering them together. Once assembled, she oxidizes the silver to give it a dark gray color. Next, she patterns the piece and textures it by hand with a sharp scribe. Finally, she polishes the jewelry or gives it a matte finish."
