Bronze Sculpture
Created by
Catherine L Bohrman
To create this lively sculpture, artist Catherine L. Bohrman utilized a process called "lost-wax". After sculpting the figures and background in clay, she then created a wax replica from the clay mold. Then, at a bronze foundry, the wax form was repeatedly dipped in a ceramic slurry in order to form a shell around it. Once this shell was dry and heated, it was able to withstand the heat of liquid bronze being poured into it. The ceramic shell was then broken off, and the bronze was smoothed.
The resulting solid bronze relief sculpture was then coated with blue and green patinas, along with a coat of protective wax, resulting in a kinetic piece which was then mounted on a smooth granite base for stability.
