Oblong Pierced Fruit Bowl

A unique way to display anything from holiday ornaments to fruit, this oblong stoneware bowl is wheel thrown, distorted, and hand pierced with a simple yet captivating design.

Small holes are created when the clay is still wet and then each hole is painstakingly enlarged and smoothed when the clay is bone dry, creating an interplay of shadow and light. The complex and nuanced glaze varies from green to gray to blue. Slow cooling of the glaze also allows tiny crystalline structures to form around the top where the glaze is thicker.
