Double Spiral Ikebana
Ceramic Sculpture
Created by
Thomas Harris
This wheel thrown ceramic work is altered by cutting and folding to make a spiral patterned functional sculpture. The exterior is created by layering four underglazes one on top of the other, then sanding to reveal the strata of color. The interior is glazed with a sea-green cone 6 glaze. This low, wide shape is inspired by Ikebana, the art of flower arranging. Many Japan-influenced potters have adopted the name of the art form for the pot itself.
