Maya and Dacey Wait for Their Grand-Children

"Maya and Dacey Wait for Their Grand-Children" is a mixed-media work on paper which is matted and framed. It is part of a series of mixed-media pieces the artist created after visiting the Rufino Tamayo Museum in Oaxaca, Mexico. These tiny, three-inch 3,000 year old sculptures were so charming, humorous, and poignant that she sketched them in the museum with imagined, Mexican-like backgrounds and gave them real Mayan names. The piece is made with Caran d'ache crayons and oil sticks and finished with a layer of watercolors to resist the oil and fill in the spaces.
