Mixed-Media Painting
Created by
Emily Donovan
This mixed-media response looks at the Finnish tradition of craft and weaving, featuring natural fibers and pigments with motifs that reflect on architecture and design. It is created with beeswax and botanical pigments on a heavy weight cotton paper- similar to batik. Each color source is handmade by the artist and include botanical sources of logwood, orange cosmos and Japanese indigo. The indigo is grown by the artist in Minnesota and celebrates this amazing blue pigment.
The artwork is mounted on a hardwood cradle with an acid-free wheat paste and framed with a poplar floater frame with natural finish and an additional layer of protection is added with an additional layer of wax and UV varnish. Signed lower left, ready to hang.
