Artifacts Rust Triptych
Mixed-Media Wall Sculpture
Created by
Kara Young
The wall pieces are made of 95% hand cast abca paper. When it has dried and is gessoed the artist applies a white joint compound mixture which when dried quickly will create a beautifully cracked surface. After darkening the cracks she covers the surface with encaustic wax ( bees wax and dry pigment ) which makes a smooth blended surface.
The inner panel is created by assembling hand rusted found objects into different arrangements on a metal printed panel which is attached to a thin wooden piece. The white crackled surface of the hand cast paper creates a wonderful setting for the selected rusted found objects. Each piece is unique and will vary slightly.
Wired and ready to hang. They may be hung horizontally or vertically. Sold as a set of three or individually. Each piece weighs approximately 5 lbs and measures 26"H , 11"W , 2"D.
