Kahn's "thought mentor" in creating this painting was the uber-talented American abstract painter, Emily Mason. Kahn diluted oil paints with three mediums. Over weeks she layered color over color, slowly rolling the liquefied paints over each other. This technique created texture and sheen, particularly in the center section. On gallery-wrapped canvas with gray painted sides.

Marion Kahn

"I am a Colorado contemporary colorist and capture moments of exceptional beauty."

As a contemporary colorist, Marion Kahn is captivated by the unceasing beauty of the world around her, from the Indian Paint Brush at her feet to color-stained skies at sunset. For the artist and for the viewer, it's the color story that is intriguing and compelling in her work. She is highly experimental. Her work can be bold and arresting or quietly meditative. She often hides elements in her paintings just for fun.

Kahn uses a bright oil palette to create paintings that exude joy. In her abstract work, she starts with a color story that may be soothing or arresting. She approaches the blank canvas with color and purpose in mind then incorporates years of travel into the painting. Each painting is an experience revealing her interests and clarity.

Marion Kahn received her painting wings while studying with colorist Ken Elliott. Through her work with Ken, she was freed from common rules of painting and elevated into a chroma-saturated zone that she calls home. Her work with American Impressionists, Kim English and Barry Thomas, also accelerated her growth.
