The bed is constructed only for box spring users. While I do love this Queen sized bed, I long ago ditched the box spring ( dust collector) and was looking for an option, which exists in my $200.00 frame, to hold a mattress-only, or both mattress and box spring. Just flip the frame over and the slats are higher. Now I'm faced with barking my knuckles every time I change the sheets. Similarly, there's a 7inch gap between the top of my mattress and the back of the headboard. My old $250.00 headboard was solid wood down to the bolted on frame. Saving money and creating a headboard assuming that a mattress plus box spring is the default height leaves me with pillows slipping off the bed down into the gap.
Asking a customer about their bed configuration would be a good opportunity to get it right. Now I'm faced with choosing to buy a box spring or chase pillows during the night.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This shall be our last bed. We are approaching 70 and Are moving soon. The 'Birdie Bed" won't be set up until we move, but it was professionally wrapped and all is good.
I'd LOVE to see a 'package deal' on the nightstands or...?

Birds on posts of heavy iron quality design. This is an oh"s and Ahh's bed.
Room designed/decorated around bed. Stunner. Affectionally known as bird room. Trying to save for a longer side table since no room for end tables.
