Deep Water Blue Sculpture

Wood, re-imagined as woven and beaded basketry; a hand-carved, hand-colored original created using maple, sharpened steel, fire, and inks. Each piece is slightly different but is faithful to the design motif.

Ocean waters swirl with life, mystery, and danger, deeply connecting Native Peoples to water and its life-giving presence and promise. Here, the artist celebrates the dynamic interplay of waves and light, bounded at the edge by an ivory and earthen ring. The imagery is adapted from Island pictographs, traditional paintings, and basketry.

The reverse side echoes the blending horizon of earth, sky and ocean water, laced with hints of gold and blue contrasting against the wood grain of Maple. Wood artist Keoni Carlson carved this interpretation first from his Colorado studio in 2018, then updated the design and offering for Artful Home in 2022.

Diameter varies slightly by 1/4". Display as wall-hung, tabletop flat, or upright using an easel. A looped wire hangers provides easy wall hang ability. Not food or microwave safe; dust by hand. Keep out of direct sunlight.
