Scissortail Flycatcher
Wood Sculpture
Created by
Dona Dalton
The flycatcher, whose Latin derived name is flying scissors, is all about aerial grace. It waits on a perch to catch an insect mid air. My version waits on your shelf. Made of poplar, this piece is carved on the band saw. Additional detailed carving along the tail is done with a rotary carver. It is painted with latex enamel, acrylics, metallic and iridescent paints. Although toy like, it is not intended for child's play.
