Wood Vessel
Created by
John M. Russell
This turned vessel is made from Madrone Burl from Oregon and features a neck of African Purpleheart and Afzelia Xylay wood from SE Asia. It displays an eye-catching chip-inlay technique wherein artist John M. Russell places semi-precious stone chips—in this case turquoise and various shells—into the natural voids of the wood. The stones are then hand-ground and polished with the rest of the vessel, which receives multiple coats of protective lacquer. Please note, all wood will naturally patina with time, oxidation, and UV sunlight.
