The title of this artwork refers to the impact human life has had on this planet especially as we enter the new Anthropocene epoch. Amidst the overwhelming realization of the magnitude of the destructive qualities our species has on the environment we live in, Laux looks to the past to understand our present. Before we assumed this god like status, we were subject to the immediate conditions in our natural world, living as part of the system in a relative balance. The illusion is that we are beyond nature when in fact we are now just the biggest influencer yet subject to the dangers of a system out of balance. As with all his art he chooses to examine these hard truths while also envisioning an optimistic future in which we find ways to treat each other and the environment around us with respect. By learning to love nature we can take a step towards a more harmonious relationship with all life.

Aaron Laux Design
"I believe that we infuse the objects in our daily lives with emotions and memories that reflect who we are. My greatest satisfaction is when other people can experience art through their own stories and recollections. When we fall in love with a work of art, it will continue to give back to us. I believe that to live with art is to live well."

Aaron Laux's designs are inspired by nature, and his intent is to deliver this "nature design" to the built environment. He feels that the addition of organic forms to interior spaces can create a subtle shift to a more livable dwelling. When Laux hears the impressions other people have of his work, it is these personal stories that create connections and the feelings that have a lasting effect in our homes and work places.

Laux challenges himself to use materials that are local and reclaimed, whether they are plywood and construction scraps or whole trees. A chainsaw is the first tool of choice when whole trees are used. The wood is sectioned, shaped, and dried. He then uses stack lamination and free-form fabrication to build the design. In addition to wood, Laux employs concrete, metal, glass and paper.

Laux apprenticed with furniture maker Steven Spiro between the years of 1995 and 2005, and then moved on to the building trades and custom cabinetry. He has a total of 25 years of experience in woodworking and custom design.
