Maya Green paints in oils because they have a beautiful palette with live, vivid colors. She tries to listen to her intuition when choosing color or light. Her favorite color is ultramarine because this is the color of the sky and sea, and she finds it mesmerizing. "For me, the piece is completed when I have an irresistible urge to walk into it and would enjoy walking there, if the picture is scenery, for example," says the artist.
She paints using a palette knife because it allows her to apply pure color and delicate lines and, perhaps most importantly, to express energy that no brush is able to capture. The effect of her colors is remarkable. Her unique talent appears in making her paintings full of motion, her characters full of life.
Green was born and raised in Ukraine and first developed her love of art there. Since her childhood, she has been intrigued with the patterning of light and the interaction of color. She studied at the School of Art in Ukraine. In 1978 she graduated from the Facility of Art and in 1996 moved to Israel and settled in Tiberias. She currently lives and works between Tel Aviv and Los Angeles.
