Pamela Acheson Myers

"Intense color has thrilled me for as long as I can remember, whether in a tropical bird's brilliant rainbow of feathers, a spectacular sunrise, or a wildly wall-papered room. Watching colors blossom as I apply them to my surface is an incredibly exciting process for me and I can?t wait to start a painting—I look at my pristine canvas, turn to my huge collection of paints, grab a color that catches my eye, and begin!"

Myers paints both pure abstracts and abstract landscapes and seascapes. Her pure abstracts are broad explorations of color. She experiments with how colors interact and with the changing nature of color depending on position, thickness of paint, degree of layering or overlapping or dilution, and the type of surface used. Her abstract landscapes and seascapes capture images of her travels along the edges of continents around the world, from the Florida Keys to the Chilean fjords to the Amalfi coast. "For me," she says, "every view of land, sea, and sky is a unique and magical moment of colors and reflections."

Myers paints with acrylics on canvas, linen, board, and various types of paper. To achieve her intense colors, she applies many layers of paint, color by color, allowing each color to dry completely before applying the next. She often heavily dilutes the paint with water, and it can take 24 to 72 hours for a layer of color to dry. "This can be so frustrating," she says, "because I know exactly what I want to do next but must wait until the paint I've just applied is dry."

Pamela Acheson Myers studied art at Bennington College in Vermont under Vincent Longo, Jules Olitski, and David Smith. After a successful publishing career in New York City, she returned to her love of writing and art and authored several books, including A Year In Palm Beach: Life in an Alternate Universe, and studied art under Harlan G. Hoffman and Miroslav Antic, both of West Palm Beach, Florida. Since then, she has developed her own unique style of applying multi-layered color-intense acrylics to various painting surfaces.
