"Jewelry creates a visual expression of who we are. I enhance this relationship by creating an undeniable visual impact both by sheer scale and implied with complex compositions of delicate forms.Characterized by contrasting shades of metal and lush stone colors, my jewelry utilizes an organic aesthetic with a robust delicacy and solid form, exemplifying classic fine-craft and goldsmithing. "

Embodying an aesthetic that is both urban and organic, Shaya Durbin is known for her subtle incorporation of color with bold texture. An independent Berkeley artist, her work exemplifies classic fine-craft and is both delicate and striking. Her work is all made solo and by hand from recycled metals and ethically sourced gems and is coveted by jewelry lovers, fashionistas, and brides-to-be.

With a history in woodcut and etching, layers and texture are important in Shaya's work, as is the robust sculptural quality she is known for. She creates this with fused metals on forged and carved metal surfaces, frequently using one-of-a-kind casting to create the forms she most enjoys for showcasing her signature unusual gems.

Shaya Durbin was taught metal work by her father at an early age. She went on to study fine art and received her Bachelors of Art from College of the Atlantic in 2005, with focused study also in Italy and School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Drawing on her education in sculpture, woodcut and etching, she returned to jewelry full time in 2006, bringing a fresh, modern feel to classic jewelry.
