"In an increasingly busy and detached world, I use landscape painting to pull me firmly back into the reality of the beauty and structure of nature."

Sandra Humphries began creating art at an early age, wanting to express a connection she felt with world around her: the changing weather and light, the patterns and colors of the landscape.

Humphries paints in watermedia, oils, and monotypes. Much of the inspiration and reference for her paintings come from plein air sketching. After setting up an easel outside and sketching the landscape, she then goes back to the studio and creates a piece using color, shape, and design to emphasize her feelings of the moment. In this way, her landscape paintings are stagings of mood and memory.

Humphries received a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design and an MA from the University of New Mexico. She is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society and continues to exhibit paintings in national juried watermedia shows across the USA.
