With their lustrous gleam and perfectly plump shape, these blown glass pumpkins could have been harvested from a fairy-tale garden. A meticulously crafted amber stem adorns each one - and some sport coiling tendrils or leaves, too. Just like pumpkins from the patch, each is unique and will vary.

Silkwood Glass
"Enlarging people's capacity for experiencing wonder in their lives is at the root of my creative process. I want the viewer to walk away from my work with a greater appreciation for the world around them and a heightened awareness of the natural beauty that surrounds them. "

Treg Silkwood has a deep affinity for the elegant beauty of many natural forms he finds in nature. He loves the sense of excitement and wonder he feels discovering something new on his walks along the California coast. In translating these experiences into glass, Silkwood enriches his appreciation for the intricate complexity of the natural world and forms a personal connection to the place he calls home.

Silkwood uses both traditional and nontraditional glass techniques to create his work. He considers the crossover between disciplines—namely, glassblowing, torchworking, and fusing—to be an area rich in creative potential. By bringing a torch into the hot shop, Silkwood attains a level of detail that glassblowing alone cannot achieve.

Treg Silkwood's glass career spans more than twenty years. He received a BFA in 1996 from Alfred University. He worked as a master gaffer for the Henry Ford Museum and for the Corning Museum of Glass Hot Glass Roadshow. He currently works as an independent artist and artistic director/senior instructor at the Bay Area Glass Institute in San Jose, California.
