Hand-blown glass with two air chambers and cased color, faceted and polished, creating the illusion that the color encompasses the full sculpture. The open-air chamber allows the bubble chamber, which can hold water, to visually float above the open sides. Can stand alone or be used for creating beautiful arrangements such as Japanese ikebana. Each unique piece may vary in size and color.

Mary Ellen Buxton and Kevin Kutch

Pier Glass
"Our reason for creating our gem-like sculptures is our fascination with glass's ability to reflect, refract, and magnify light."

Mary Ellen Buxton and Kevin Kutch have worked in partnership for more than 25 years. They collaborate in both the design and development processes as they create blown and cut glass sculptures.

They begin the process by sketching out images. These designs are the basis for the manipulation of hot glass into blown forms. They keep their designs clean and deceptively simple, comparing them to finely cut gemstones.

Buxton and Kutch use a variety of blowing techniques to achieve the shape and form they want, and then cold work the sculpture to complete the finished piece.

Take care opening box!

There were several large live cockroaches in the box! Luckily, I managed to close the box before they escaped.

PERIDOT GEM

The color first attracted my attention and then I started to look at the soft angles and was intrigued with the air space and how it might have been blown. The piece sits by a window where the morning sun makes it even more brilliant. Makes a beautiful statement that makes me smile every morning.
