Horsehair Raku Jar
Ceramic Vase
Created by
Lance Timco
This wheel-thrown ceramic vase showcases the rich, earthy effects of the raku and horsehair firing techniques. The surface is not glazed; rather, the artist first covers the piece in several layers of terra sigillata and hand polishes it to a smooth finish. Then, during the firing process, the artist places iron and real horsehair against the vase, leaving fascinating marks. Signed on bottom. Each piece is unique; exact form and horsehair pattern will vary.
For decorative use only. Raku pieces are porous and are not suitable for holding water.
