Encaustic is a mixture of beeswax, resin, and pigment that is applied to the wood and "burned in". This means that heat is applied to the painted surface to fuse the paint to the wood. Many successive layers of paint add to the richness and texture of the work. The side edge of the painting reveals a 3/4 inch history of the process. This painting can be grouped with others of this series, either horizontally or vertically, in a myriad of ways.
