This image comes from my exploration of the Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. The birds are woodpeckers.
This is a two plate etching. One copper plate is a soft ground drawing with spit bite aquatint. The second copper plate has a sugar lift aquatint etching. The plates are printed on Japanese gampi paper, which is adhered to acid free printmaking paper using wheat paste. This process is called chine colle.
The image size is 18 inches by 11 inches. Limited edition of 15.
