Above the Tree of Knowledge
A limited edition on Hahnemuhle German Etching paper using archival inks. The original is oil on canvas. This piece is from the Icon series, a theme the artist has explored since the early 1990's. It proposes overlaying an objective form with divergent meanings. The shape, a 'bi-concave disk' may be familiar as a human blood corpuscle. The artist paints, draws, and sculpts this form in as many contexts as possible, thereby drawing into focus the paradox of individuality. Our inner selves exist in a multiplicity of feeling, thought, perception, and memory. This particular piece, in composition and title, is open to the interpretation of the viewer. Prints are signed and numbered on the bottom margin.
