The Four Seasons: Summer

This series of mixed media works on paper, "The Four Seasons," which these giclee prints are based on, is a study of the same aspen trees as they change with each season. This one titled "Summer" captures the abundant season with the appearance, it seems overnight, of millions of leaves! As the summer sun plays on the trees some leaves appear lighter, other darker, some more yellow green and the ones in shadow a cooler shade. This creates a back and forth movement as if you are walking through the trees. The painting is done with watercolor and gouache and the line work is drawn with India ink or gouache and a steel nib pen. The change of seasons has always been an inspiration for this artist, whose focus is the tree in the landscape.
