This wall clock is created from a hand-hammered copper disk. It is adorned with 14 sterling silver individually cast figures who are busy exploring the perimeter of the clock. The ladder is fabricated from sterling silver. The decorations are brass and copper, the 12, 3, 6, and 9 numbers are stamped on brass with the other numbers represented by brass dots. A liquid sulfurated potash patina is applied to the entire piece. When that is dry, the piece is waxed to create a permanent finish. The silver figures are polished. This clock runs on a C cell battery quartz movement. The hands are handmade from copper and brass. A rim of copper hides the clock movement from side view.

Mary Ann Owen and Malcolm Owen

Winged Camel Metalworks
"Folks always comment that we must have fun making our work. What's your guess?!"

Malcolm and Mary Ann Owen are a husband and wife team who own and operate Winged Camel Metalworks, a small studio located in the northern foothills of the Adirondack Mountains in New York State. Most of their work is collaborative, but each partner also makes one of a kind pieces. Mary Ann makes jewelry and small sculptures, Malcolm creates large sculptural and decorative work.

The couple use a hands-on collage method to explore themes. The small silver figures lend a sense of action and intimacy to the work. The Owens fabricate their pieces from copper, brass and sterling silver using tried and true hand forming methods. Many of the hammers and stakes that are used daily were made by Malcolm. The small figures are cast in the studio using the lost wax process.

Mary Ann and Malcolm Owen met while studying in the art metals program at SUNY Oswego. Malcolm had a degree in philosophy and was a self taught blacksmith. They soon formed a partnership making small silver holloware and flatware. They progressed to using copper as a primary material and have been exploring the possibilities ever since.

Love it

I love, love, love this clock, it's an amazing piece of art. However, I do agree with a previous review that the hands are very hard to read unless the room is very bright. I, however, don't really care because it's just a wonderful creation. The details are intricate and amazing. Transform

Esthetics At the Expense of Function

Stylish and original piece but in the end unable to fulfill its function: reading the time. The needles are too thin and their muted metallic tone doesn't stand out against the bronze background.

The creator could have easily remedied this flaw too.

Don't make the mistake I made by falling for this piece.

Amazing Detail

The photo of this fabulous clock is great. It does have an amazing
amount of detail. I've hung it on a wall where it can be clearly
seen, but not bumped easily. It required just a slight adjustment
of the hands, and it's keeping good time.
