We Choose
Metal Wall Clock
Created by
Mary Ann Owen and Malcolm Owen
A complex work of functional art, this wall clock is detailed with 99 tiny cast sterling silver figures, celebrating humans, their choices, and the concept that nothing is easy—but we choose it.
The spiral depicts the families and single figures that make up our ever-changing world, and the other figures engage in daily activities, moving, cheering, and contemplating. The hour markers and other colorful accents are made from agate, amethyst, aventurine, lapis, jade, and turquoise.
The piece was fabricated from brass, copper, and sterling silver and assembled with silver solder and soft solder, then oxidized with sulfurated potash before the whole piece is waxed.
Dimensions:
Clock face: 10”dia
Copper hanging loops: 16” apart at back
