The tension in this refined earring design is achieved through the interplay of a convex ear wire and a concave element. The matte silver arc contrasts beautifully with the high-polish finish of the 18k gold or argentium silver ear wire.

Hilary Hachey

"I can only imagine a life where I soak up the world around me and reinterpret it through my chosen medium. I love the process of building a piece, the care that goes into each soldered joint, each hammered texture, each sanded stroke, so I can bring to you something to be cherished."

Admirer’s of Hilary’s work frequently inquire if she studied architecture. Often they are architects themselves, drawn to Hilary’s clean lines and minimalist designs. She considers her work to be architectonic. That is, a type of perceived sensibility to form and design that prefers the simple over the complex, and the well-built over the mass-produced.

Hilary's metalwork, hand-fabricated in sterling silver and 18k gold, achieves its characteristic style through experimentation with the figure/ground relationship. Hilary often uses oxidation to create contrast within a piece. Contrast and opposition combined with repetition are the building blocks of her design.

Hilary first became interested in jewelry making as art while attending a scholarship program for high school students at Moore College of Art in Philadelphia. She then received a liberal arts degree before studying metalsmithing at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. Hilary honed her skills as a metalsmith working as an intern and later doing benchwork for area jewelry artisans. Since 1999, Hilary has traveled the country exhibiting her work at art shows as well as selling to small craft galleries and museum shops. Throughout her time exhibiting at shows, Hilary has been recognized for her excellence, including a “best of show” at RiverArts in Memphis and a Niche Award for her Bauhuas Bracelet. In 2015, Hilary was honored with an Individual Artist Award and grant from the Maryland State Arts Council.
