"I feel that I'm doing contemporary work that bridges design, fashion, and art. I'm excited and influenced by the materials, themes, and aesthetics represented in these areas and continue my experimentation to create beautifully functional and sculptural collections that find the fashion in art and the art in fashion. "

Each MPR piece is fabricated by hand using sterling silver and gold-filled tubing with nylon-coated steel wire to form the structure. By mixing metals with textile techniques, and classic, elementary materials like miniature bridge cabling with fine metals, MPR reinterprets them to create industrial jewelry that is feminine, luxurious, and alluring.

With a background in math and geometry, MPR creates work inspired by geometric, volumetric forms. She crafts small line segments to create larger forms that she can expand upon, resulting in multi-dimensional forms that are lightweight, flexible, and able to adapt to the wearer.

MPR is a self-taught metalsmith and artist with an academic background in community economic development from UC-Berkeley. Her unique background contributes to the interdisciplinary nature of her work. She has participated in solo art and juried group shows, and has presented her work on the runway at Fashion Week in New York City and Chengdu, China, where she received design and fashion awards.

Unique and light as a feather to wear

I like the artistic vibe of this necklace AND the fact that it is very light...but my main complaint/issue with the design is the tiny (but very strong!) magnetic clasp . The hair on the back of my head /neck gets caught in the magnetic clasp and it PULLS my hair and some hair gets stuck in the clasp. It is uncomfortable and annoying. When I take the necklace off by pulling apart the two metal magnetic discs, I'm always nervous that the tension will cause the adjacent 'connections' to break. Hope this doesn't happen.

Unique!

I was pleasantly surprised by this great necklace. It's very different; not at all mechanical or fabricated looking given what its made of. In fact, it is very delicate, almost lacy looking. Just the right length, too. This is one necklace that is even better in person than pictured on the website. I will take it on an upcoming cruise and I can't wait to wear it with several outfits.

I do like it after all!

I was a bit worried when I ordered this necklace -- fearing it would be too "industrial". Still it was intriguing enough to order. I am very pleased! It is "ethereal", not "industrial"! I think it looks better to place the -- really helpful -- magnetic clasp a bit askew to get a better "vee" of the elements. Because it doesn't have a specific focal element (like a pendant), it does not call attention to my senior citizen neck. It is a nice, understated fill-in, but has plenty of understated style to be interesting! The only -- small -- drawback is that its delicacy (part of its charm) needs careful handling and detangling. Worth the effort!
