Painted with acrylic paint on museum board mounted on quarter-inch wood panel, this piece depicts an old ship tied to a weathered pier in the Rocky Neck Art Colony in Gloucester, MA. The season is Autumn, the tide is in, the air is crisp and the morning sun shine bright. A dinghy is tethered to the larger ship, resembling a calf clinging to its mother. It is currently framed in dark rustic wood with metal brackets at the corners.

"I tackle my subject matter with urgency, before it is reduced to scrap or condos."

Jeff Darrow was raised on a farm near Shullsburg, a community in southwestern Wisconsin. During his long, hot summer days in rural America, everything seemed to stand still and change came grudgingly slow. He tries to capture that same stillness in his work.
