Joshua Solomon
Joshua Solomon views his glassblowing practice as an adventure. His love of the material and passion for exploration is channeled into his work through form, color, and texture. Finished works are easily accessible and enjoyed by people of all ages and backgrounds. His colors and textures are inspired by his knowledge of the natural world and fervor for the fantastic.
Solomon's technique is a unique amalgam of many different styles rooted in the American studio glass movement. His acclaimed use of color has been cultivated through years of experimentation. Once the glass has been blown into shape and cooled, Solomon textures the glass using diamond tools. Through carving, the artist introduces nuanced surfaces that add visual weight and complexity.
Joshua Solomon took his first gather of glass in 1998 in Santa Barbara, California, in the studio of the great Brioni. He then apprenticed and worked for the renowned Barry Entner in upstate New York for many years. He earned a BA from Bard College in 2003. In 2007, he moved to Virginia to work with the ineffable Minh Martin. He now works at Chrysler Museum of Art Glass Studio in Norfolk, Virginia, where he lives with his wife, Sarah.
