An art glass wall sculpture portraying an impressionistic winter landscape.

Images are hand-applied to sheet glass using powdered colored glass and water, then kiln-fired multiple times for a matte finish; an intriguing detail of this piece is the way the colors interact in the kiln. Certain blues and the touches of silver foil create natural reactions with each other, producing subtle variations and depth—especially in the trees.

Anne Nye Glass
"I am an artist in love with color and the beauty of glass. Each piece is designed to bring joy to the viewer."

Nye's art is profoundly shaped by the beauty and color of the land. Trained as a painter, she has perfected her own painterly glass techniques using layers of finely crushed glass to shade and contour the design. From her crisp, graphic-style music pieces to her rich, glowing landscapes, each creation reflects her love of color, depth, texture, and beauty.

Beginning with a base of flat glass, Nye works from sketches and computer renderings. She lays down an underpainting of finely crushed glass and powders, then adds detail using sheet glass and additional layers of crushed glass. The entire composition is fired in a glass kiln to around 1400 degrees Fahrenheit over a 24-hour period.

Anne Nye studied fine art at the University of Idaho and California College of Arts & Crafts in Oakland, CA. She worked as a graphic designer and fine artist for many years, and in 1997, began working full time as a fine art painter. Succumbing to the beauty of fused glass in 2000, Anne began working on her own to develop her unique style and techniques. She is now widely sought as a glass fusing teacher.
