"I can't think of anything more fun than taking a leisurely ride with your best bud—unless it's making ceramic sculpture."

Making people smile is ceramic sculptor Byron Williamson's biggest motivation. The humorous work makes him smile, and he thoroughly enjoys sharing the fun. Each piece has its own story to tell--a race that was won, a drive full of discoveries. He hopes everyone who sees the work comes away feeling connected with the piece and a memory of a special drive with a special friend.

Byron Williamson makes each of his whimsical sculptures using traditional ceramic hand-building methods: slab, coil, and pinching. After the main slab form is completed, additional sculptural pieces are attached. After the piece is fired to cone 5, a cold finish is applied using metallic paints.

Byron Williamson received his B.F.A. in painting from Northwest Missouri State University in 1986. He went on to be a public school teacher for 25 years, painting in his spare time. In 2007, he began to use ceramics to create his paintings in 3-D. The work has since evolved into his vibrant, fun sculptures.
