The artist has chosen the Australian Aboriginal saying, "The plant is the dream of the seed," to describe this depiction of a seed before it germinates. This richly textured, 3-D fiber wall piece is constructed of vibrant hand-dyed and painted silk, mulberry bark, cotton cord, rug padding, and yarn. Raw edge applique, hand stitching, and dense machine stitching are used to create this one-of-a-kind work. Hanging material included. Signed on back.

"My art explores the rich metaphorical stories I find in microscopic cellular imagery."

Karen Kamenetzky believes that all change happens on an infinitesimal level and results in the world we experience everyday. Kamenetzky creates a kind of invented biology, zooming in on that fundamental nature of things and bringing it into vision. She works loosely from sketches but each piece travels a route of evolution and change.

Beginning with white cotton and silk, Kamenetzky adds vibrant saturated color with dye and paint. The fabric is then cut freehand and the entire piece constructed using layered raw edge appliqu?. Machine and hand stitching add lines of light and shadow as well as color.
