Ellen Cohen

"I make jewelry that promotes strength and confidence. Life is too short to be ordinary."

Ellen’s work appeals to people who are fascinated by the unexpected. Her work makes the wearer feel beautiful, unique, and empowered. Forever intrigued by the endless textures and forms found in nature, (on the coast of Maine) cityscapes or a rusty piece of metal (or the graffiti or grit of NYC), her work is meant to stand the test of time. Her work is both structural and organic, ancient and modern. It transcends time.

Ellen uses precious metals and stones that are ethically sourced, reclaimed, refined or recycled. Techniques vary – from building hollow forms to creating textures and using a lot of heat to fuse layers of metal together.

Everything is connected— Ellen’s practice to the environment, her work to the wearer and her past lives in both horticulture and as an award-winning graphic designer — all of this meets at her bench. Her desire to learn has led her to study with many notable jewelers over the years. Ellen gives back by formally teaching others.
