Robin Sulkes

"I make jewelry that combines earthiness with elegance. I think of my work as small sculptures that are pleasing to the eye and comfortable to wear and touch."

Often inspired by forms found in nature, Robin Sulkes is constantly finding visual sources that inform her creativity. Whether it's a gossamer pod left behind by a hungry insect in the woods, an unusual rock spotted on the beach in Maine, or an interesting architectural detail found while walking the streets of New York, it's these unexpected discoveries that inspire her ideas.

Sulkes creates organic forms that are either carved in wax, then cast into metal, or directly fabricated in silver and gold. These components are frequently pierced or textured. Stones add color and detail, and are sometimes the centerpiece around which the piece is designed. Much of Sulkes jewelry is made with oxidized silver and highlights of 18 or 22 karat gold.

Robin Sulkes received a degree in art from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an MFA in sculpture from the San Francisco Art Institute. She has also attended many jewelry classes and workshops from the Parsons School of Design and the 92nd Street Y in New York City.
