Lois Sattler is best known for porcelain ceramics that are both decorative and functional. Having honed her skills at painting, drawing, and sculpture, Sattler has now developed a unique and personal way of hand building porcelain in her Venice, California, studio. In the 1970s, Sattler met Sueo Serisawa, one of the leading figures in the Los Angeles-based Modernist art movement. Serisawa helped position the West Coast as a fertile and revolutionary art center, which Sattler became a part of. From her early mentorship with Serisawa, Sattler continued to grow through classes and private lessons with artists she met in southern California.
