Part of the artist's "Elemental Production Series," this console table bears similarities to its slightly larger counterpart, the "Elemental Hall Table." Designed with the same motifs as its predecessor, this piece explores balance, form, and color.

As with all the pieces in this series, this table is fabricated largely from reclaimed and post-consumer materials. The green base is formed and carved from reclaimed Douglas fir and finished with milk paint, an old-fashioned paint consisting of pigments, clay slip, and milk proteins. The black supporting curve is fashioned from reclaimed pieces of plywood that are cold bent laminated to form the curve. The top of the table consists of cherry wood with a hand-rubbed, moisture-resistant polyurethane finish.

Derek Secor Davis creates sculptural pieces of furniture that play with the ideas of balance, weathering, and transformation. Inspired by the presence of change in the natural world, Davis constructs furniture using organic forms that appear as if they have been precariously stacked. By contrasting weathered textures with polished finishes, Davis suggests that everything is in a state of metamorphosis.

Maintaining a rigorous commitment to craftsmanship, Davis uses shape, texture, line and color to create furniture pieces that are eloquent and compelling works of art.
