This truly unique wood vessel was carved from Purple Heart Juniper using a chainsaw and grinders; the large voids were filled with various colors and shapes of dichroic glass, while the smaller cracks were filled with turquoise stone. It stands on a stone base.

Shangrila Woodworks
"We are inspired by the artistic journey with working with wood, to uncover the hidden beauty in nature's raw, unrefined forms. With every piece we create, we strive to transform salvaged wood into stunning sculptures that convey the fluidity, movement, and wonder of the natural world. At the heart of our work is a deep respect for the materials we use."

Nature remains our greatest inspiration. Living amid its beauty allows us to infuse our work with a sense of authenticity and reverence. We are fascinated by the fluidity and organic forms found in the natural world, which we seek to echo in our sculptures. Through our work, we aim to celebrate the beauty of nature, highlighting its complexity and grace.

Each log or burl selected tells a story, waiting to reveal its essence. This process starts with the chainsaw, where the shapes of the design emerge, capturing the foundational spirit of the sculpture. From there, they refine the piece using grinders and other tools, shaping delicate waves, folds, tunnels, and more. This meticulous process results in sculptures that evoke the illusion of movement.

Scott started working with wood in high school and studied with furniture maker Sam Maloof, where he honed his skills. After several years of owning a busy health food business, Scott and Stephanie turned to a more creative life of being artists. They started creating fine furniture and eventually moved over to sculpture. Being mostly self taught, Scott has transformed into the incredible carver he is today.
