"Traditionally, kantha were supposed to help keep their wearers safe from harm and aid in obtaining happiness and prosperity, all of which Mieko wishes for you."

Born in southern Japan, Mieko Mintz uses handcrafted textiles from around the world to make contemporary pieces. Her signature line includes jackets made from vintage sari kantha, each with its own variety of colors and its own story.

Mintz's work follows in the kantha tradition. First, her designs are made into kantha throws in West Bengal, which she then cuts to fit her jacket designs. Her focus is a kantha line that is not only comfortable, but also contemporary and sophisticated.

Cuttings left over from making the jackets are recycled one more time to create hats, bags, and jewelry.

Very Disappointing Quality

I had been looking at this top for some time and when it recently went on sale, I decided to buy it.

I was surprised when I received it, to see that the top looked very home-made (not in a good sense). The sleeves (it is sleeveless - it looks as though it has short sleeves on the website) are hand-sewn with a large running stitch which looked as if it would hold for only a couple of wearings. The pockets looked amateurly made. But what really upset me was that when I put the blouse/shirt on, the left side hem at the front was a full 1/2" shorter than the right side! Considering the expense and the claim of Meiko Mintz to excellent quality and workmanship, I was somewhat stunned by this. I returned the piece.

We're sorry for your disappointment. Our Customer Care team can assist with any additional questions you might have regarding your return request.
