Joanna Nealey

"I design bright, bold enameled jewelry to give the wearer a lot of edge and even more color."

Joanna Nealey creates jewelry inspired by her urban surroundings—what she considers to be quintessential Baltimore. Her inspiration comes from plants growing through chain link fences, webs of overhead power lines, and even the shimmering glass of busted windshields.

Nealey focuses on positive and negative shapes to make her lightweight enameled jewelry. Each piece is pierced from sheets of copper using a jeweler's saw, formed with various mallets and hammers, and then enameled in a kiln. All ear wires and clasps are hand fabricated for a personal touch.

Joanna Nealey graduated with honors from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, earning her BFA through the Crafts department.
