Kate Harrold

"I photograph with the intention of creating my own reality, rather than documenting it. I find inspiration in people and places and create stories around them. My photo-surrealistic images ask viewers to put themselves in the shoes of those pictured and look at the world through their eyes. Imagination and storytelling are the cornerstones of my work."

Who hasn't daydreamed about what it would be like to float away and exist in some other impossible place? Through Photoshop, Kate Harrold takes her photography, and the viewer, to these faraway, dreamlike places. Rather than documenting the reality we face every day, she creates her own alternate version with limitless possibilities. The subjects of her pieces defy the odds, defy gravity, and defy reality.

Kate Harrold is a photographer and a Photoshop ninja. She photographs the different elements of her images separately, sometimes borrowing elements from found photos, and then digitally manipulates and merges them together to create a new story. She does all her own printing with archival inks and paper. Each print is hand signed, numbered, titled, and embossed.

Kate Harrold has a BFA from Cornell University. She has years of experience working as a photographer, production artist, and photographer's assistant in Philadelphia and New York City. She apprenticed and worked under National Geographic and Magnum photographer Steve McCurry. Her education and experience have given her the technical knowledge to realize her creative vision.
