Boris Kramer

Kramer Sculptures

"I am a sculptor. I heat and hand forge metal until it gives form to expressions of human energy. When heated, metal is extremely forgiving--that's why I chose it as a medium. Through art, I explore humanity. In particular, I explore the ways in which we are drawn together."

Boris Kramer believes that art should communicate visually in order to create a dialogue between artist and viewer. Art needs to interpret, understand, influence, and change culture. Kramer focuses on visually describing the essence of primary relationships, whether between lovers, family members, or co-workers, in order to bring strength to those bonds. For Kramer, art must touch not just the mind but the heart also.

Boris Kramer works directly with all different kinds of metal. Whether it is the traditional iron work that his father taught him, or the monumental bronze fabrication techniques that he taught himself, Kramer understands the principles of forming both hot and cold metal. The contrast between the strength of the medium and the tenderness of the subject matter appeals to many.

Boris Kramer was born in Hamilton, Ontario. His father, Richard Kramer, was a renowned artist and a blacksmith. After Boris completed his graduate studies in fine art and post-graduate degree in Renaissance/Reformation history and philosophy, he committed his future to art.
