"I thought I was retiring when I closed my glass blowing studio, but my fascination of with glass is as alive and exciting as ever. Glass has been my lifelong passion which continues to inspire, delight, and challenge me. I now consider myself a re-emerging artist as I happily explore the endless possibilities of glass art."
Holly Wallace initially trained as a sculptor but discovered a fascination with glass in the early years of the studio glass movement. The light-transmitting qualities of glass continue to drive her creative imagination. She owned and operated one of the few woman-owned blown glass studios in the country, and now defines herself as a re-emerging glass artist.
Fused glass is the melting together of the components of a design. The process begins with an assemblage of glass design elements which are fused in a kiln for 16 hours at a temperature of 1450°.
Wallace trained in glass blowing at California College of the Arts, Pilchuck Glass School, Pratt Institute, and various advanced learning courses. She owned and operated the only woman-owned glass blowing studio in the San Francisco area for a period of 10 years. She took her extensive knowledge of glass properties and transitioned from blown glass to fused-glass and cast-glass forms.
