This wooden wall sculpture features a section of weather-sculpted pine root displayed on a single block of spruce that was sculpted into two angled planes. The acrylic paint on the spruce is transparent, allowing the wood's grain to remain visible as it crosses vertically the red and green sections. Two gray-blue oak dowels reinforce the vertical tones of the composition.

This distinctive work is ready to hang, using a French cleat.

John Boak

"All objects have voices and secrets. Since childhood, I have been collecting, making, painting, photographing, and assembling objects, all the while coaxing from them their songs, symbols, and secrets."

John Boak considers the world to be a rich array of physics and structure. Whether human artifice or natural creation, his images are the facets he encounters and connects with walking about in everyday life. The images have life by themselves. And in groups they also interact and delight the viewer.

John Boak was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. He received a BA in fine arts from Yale University. His work has been exhibited in shows and galleries across the country. Today, he lives and works in Denver, Colorado.
